KIRA was an ambitious project of mine. It’s an acronym which roughly translates to Experimental Interactive Rap Album.

I was the solo designer and developer of this project.

Gameplay and Mechanics

The player controls a High School teenager who has a talent for writing and performing rap songs. It is a topdown, narrative-heavy game in a pixelart style.

The most interesting mechanic of the game is that you can interactively write rap songs based on your choices of words. You need the pick words that you like, then connect rhymes together. After that, you get to hear the matching lines performed to the beat ‘live’. You can write completely different songs lyrically based on how you would react to the story of the game.

This project was way too ambitious before finishing smaller projects so it’s on the backburner for now. However, I plan to revisit this game in the future.

Also, this game idea motivated me to start my gamedev YouTube channel.
